Last night I stood in the Pacific Ocean, a few meters away from a family of harbor seals. They bobbed up and down in the waves, sneaking curious peeks at me as I gazed in wonderment at them. I love those seals - they always make me smile. I wish I could describe to you how it felt standing in the midst of those crashing waves, with a 200 degree view of nothing but ocean and trees and sun-painted...

Newton and Limits
Isaac Newton was born on Chrismas Day in 1642, the year of Galileo’s death. When he entered Cambridge University in 1661 Newton didn’t know much about mathematics, but he learned quickly by reading Euclid and Descartes and by attending the lectures of Issac Barrow. Cambridge was closed because of the plague in 1665 and 1666, and Newton returned home to reflect on what he had learned....
